Ainu Party Launch
Kanto orowa yak sakno arankep sinep ka isam
(No creature has descended to the earth from the world of the Gods without its own role. )
In the Ainu worldview, it is believed that all creatures from animals, including humans, to plants and even funguses are sent from the world of the Gods to the Human world with a role.
On January 21st, 2012, in Ebetsu City in Ainumosir, in the presence of Ainu, Sisam (good friends of the Ainu) and world indigenous peoples, the Ainu Party descended upon the world of the Humans world from the world of the Gods.
The role of the Ainu Party is to eliminate the discrimination that continues to exist today and restore the rights of indigenous peoples. Yukie Chiri mentions in the beginning of her Collection of Ainu Epics of the Gods, “In the past, this vast Hokkaido was a free world of our ancestors. What happy people they were, living peacefully and pleasantly held in the arms of beautiful Nature like innocent children. They are literally the children of nature.” With almost 140 years having passed since these lives filled with happiness were robbed from them, we decided to raise our voices calling for the restoration of the rights as Ainu Party today.
The Ainu Party is also expected to suggest and implement policies that are based on Ainu peoples’ values and Ainupuri (Ainu’s lifestyle). The Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami took the precious lives of nearly 20,000 people on March 11th. Due to the subsequent nuclear power plant accidents, the radioactive contamination of the atmosphere, ocean and soil has been growing exponentially, forcing several hundred thousands of people to live in emergency evacuation centers to this day. Since 3.11, our sense of values trembles on unstable ground. We believe that each and every one of us needs to reconsider how our society and lifestyles should be and we need to fundamentally change today’s politics. Ainupuri is necessary to make these changes.
It is by no means easy to fill this historical role that has been bestowed upon the Ainu Party. However, we believe our dreams can come true by bringing together all of the voices of the people who place their hopes on Ainu party, the Ainu and Sisam alike who have gathered for party launch, and those who cannot be present today.
Being encouraged by the warm and supporting words from the indigenous peoples around the world including those from the Maori Party in Aotearoa (New Zealand), we now declare the launch of Ainu Party.
